MONTANA -- An 18-month-old child suffered serious injuries Wednesday after being bitten in the face by a dog, according to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.
The dog reportedly wandered away from its owner’s property and encountered the toddler on Mountain Drive in Hungry Horse.
The child suffered “fairly serious injuries” to the face, Undersheriff Dave Leib said.
The child was flown by the ALERT helicopter to Kalispell Regional Medical Center, where Leib said surgery was expected.
The dog, a pit bull / black Labrador mix, was taken to the county animal shelter. The incident is still under investigation.
