Cop shoots, wounds charging pit bull inside Brooklyn housing project

NEW YORK -- A cop shot and wounded a charging pit bull inside a Brooklyn housing project early Saturday, police said.

A pair of cops was responding to reports of an assault when two unleashed pit bulls charged at them when the elevator doors opened on the ninth floor of the Roosevelt Houses on Lewis Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant, officials said.

One cop fired once, hitting one of the dogs. The pit bull was taken to an animal hospital by its owner and expected to survive, cops said.

The cop who shot the dog was taken to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center for tinnitus, police said.
