Missoula man accused of having sex with Husky can't have contact with pets

MONTANA -- A Missoula man accused of having sex with a dog has been released on his own recognizance and ordered not to have contact with any dogs or cats – including his own six pets.

Kenneth Dwayne Kelmer had his pants down and was being ‘humped’ by the family dog (Husky) on February 21 when his girlfriend’s sister walked in, police say.

The shocked woman contacted the police and Kellmer was charged with bestiality and ordered to seek a mental health evaluation.

On Monday afternoon, he appeared before Missoula County Justice of the Peace Marie Andersen, who also barred the man from having contact with the owners of the dog he allegedly assaulted.

"They have a house full of animals, ma'am," said Nick Hagglund, the husky's owner. "They have umpteen amount of dogs, cats (and) rats."

Andersen also ordered Kellmer to be evaluated by a mental health professional.

"I am setting up an appointment to be evaluated by the mental health center here in town," he said.

According to charging documents, a woman reported to a Missoula police officer that she returned home to find Kellmer, an acquaintance, on the floor on his hands and knees with his pants down and her dog on top of him.

A detective assigned to the case attempted to contact Kellmer, but was unsuccessful.

Justice of the Peace Karen Orzech issued a warrant for his arrest March 26 and he was apprehended Sunday.
