FLORIDA -- The owner of a pit bull who attacked an elderly man in Volusia County could soon be cited, according to Deltona Animal Control.
Nigel Bailey said he was walking his dogs near Derby Road Friday morning when a pit bull escaped from a backyard and bit him.
A neighbor saw the attack and shot the dog in the leg, Bailey said.
Deltona Animal Control officials said they were forced to euthanize the pit bull because it was suffering from internal bleeding.
Bailey said he has no idea what might have caused the dog to attack him.
"He's growling, he's snarling, and he's snapping at the dogs, snapping at me. Why? I have no idea,” Bailey said.
None of Bailey’s injuries are life-threatening.
The city of Deltona received at least two complaints about the pit bull’s aggressive behavior this year, according to records.
Animal Control officials said the dog’s owner could be cited because the pit bull was not vaccinated.
