Quick-acting Pinal deputy saves dog from drowning in canal

ARIZONA -- The Pinal County Sheriff's Office arrived just in time to save a young Rottweiler from drowning in a canal located at Rolling Ridge and Sierra Vista in San Tan Valley.

On Sunday, Deputy Daniel Campbell responded when a person flagged him down on patrol about a dog in a crate that was thrown into the canal. Campbell was able to pull the crate out of the water and free the dog.

The quick actions saved the dog from drowning in the canal.


Animal Care and Control responded to take the Rottweiler to the shelter on Eleven Mile Corner Road.

"The dog is doing well," said Interim Animal Care and Control Director Audra Michael. "He is very friendly and will be up for adoption on Thursday. We are all thankful Deputy Campbell was able to pull this dog to safety he did a great job."

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office is now asking the public to help find the person responsible for dumping the dog.
