Three dogs "bite and maul" female victim, taser used by CSP trooper

COLORADO -- In a release Wednesday, Mesa County Animal Services says three dogs "bit and mauled" a female victim after jumping out of the bed of a truck near the Genghis Grill on Highway 6 & 50.

The release says that witnesses saw the three cattle dogs jump from the bed of the truck and attack the victim at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Several people then chased the dogs back into the truck.

However, the attack was not over.

The dogs jumped from the truck again and a trooper with the Colorado State Patrol was forced to use his taser. It is not known if the taser hit one of the dogs, but the release says the use of the taser caused the dogs to retreat.

A third attack was instigated by one of the dogs as it bit an officer with Animal Services.

Eventually, officers were able to corral the dogs into the back of an Animal Services vehicle.

As of Wednesday officers are investigating the incident as "Dangerous Dog" violation, among other animal law violations.

Veronica Daehn Harvey with the county told us that the dogs are currently under quarantine. The quarantine could last at least 10 days as they work to determine if the animals are up to date on their shots.

Information regarding the woman's condition was not made public at this time. The Animal Services officer that was bitten by the dog did not request treatment.

  1. Cattle dogs? Those don't look like any cattle dogs I've seen. They certainly aren't heelers or aussies.

Maybe they use a different breed in Colorado.
