“Aggressive” black cat not so much, quickly surrenders when spotted by cop

ILLINOIS -- Responding to a call of a possible "feline-ony," Tinley Park police apprehended a cat after it allegedly attacked a dog and its owner during a walk..

As an officer approached, the cat flipped on its back and raised all four paws in the air, as if to surrender, according to police.

The resident told police he was walking his 9-year-old yellow Labrador retriever in the 17300 block of 71st Court on May 8 when a black cat weighing 10 to 12 pounds ran out from a front porch and attacked them both.

Police said an officer examined the dog but did not find any wounds. The owner said he had cleaned blood off the dog's face prior to police arriving.

Police were initially unable to make contact with the owner of the house with the porch or to locate the cat. Another neighbor described the cat as "aggressive" and said it runs at large during the day, police reported.

Several hours later, an officer returned to the house and found a black cat with a white chest and white paws, police said.

They said the cat was taken to the PAWS animal shelter for examination and would be released to its owner pending proof of a rabies vaccine.
