ALABAMA -- The Shelby County Sheriff's Office has charged a woman with animal cruelty for allegedly abandoning eight puppies last December, according to court documents.
Sindie Carol Lowery, 29, faces the single misdemeanor that accuses her of "recklessly, or with criminal negligence," subjecting eight mixed-breed puppies to cruel neglect on or about Dec. 2, 2014, according to her arrest warrant filed in Shelby County District Court in Columbiana.
Sheriff's Major Ken Burchfield said Lowery is accused of "abandoning puppies without any provisions" last December. She "left them alone in one of our parks," he said, adding the puppies were later taken to the Shelby Humane Society's shelter.
Lowery, who shows addresses in Columbiana and Logansport, Ind., in court records, was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Thursday. She posted a $500 bond the same day to secure her release.
Her court records did not indicate if Lowery had a defense attorney. Her next court appearance is set for May 18.
