David Creech surrenders in animal cruelty case

KENTUCKY -- A man who faces a cruelty to animals 2nd degree charge in connection with an injured cat surrendered to police Wednesday morning.

David Creech faces the charge.

Jenkins Police say they responded to the residence but did not have enough evidence to make an arrest, instead the owners of the cat were advised to contact the Letcher County attorney who could review the the facts and issue a summons or warrant.

One of the cat's legs had to be amputated because of the injuries it suffered.

Creech called WYMT's newsroom asking to share his side of the story, noting that he was target-shooting, and he had offered to pay some of the veterinary bills. WYMT requested a jailhouse interview with Creech Wednesday morning, but he declined.

The case is currently in the hands of the Letcher County Attorney.

"The complaining witness came to my office and explained that he had a cat that he was very close to and that it had gotten shot by his neighbor," said Jamie Hatton, Letcher County Attorney.
