Canada: Fake 'animal control' van sought

CANADA -- Kingston Police are warning residents of a possible fake "animal control" van.

Police received a report from a resident on Woodburn Road who saw an older model white van with an unprofessional "Animal Control" sign on it. It was parked behind her backyard and has possibly been spotted across eastern Ontario.

The complainant had previously seen social media posts referencing a similar van in Quinte West and Belleville as well as in Ottawa and Pembroke. The posts describe the vehicle possibly having a purple colour to it and the sign isn't always visible.

Police have contacted local officials and neither the city's animal control bylaw officers or the Kingston Humane Society use the van described. Kingston Police are concerned with the number of social media posts and that the van may be looking for pets, possible show dogs, to steal.

Kingston Police are asking residents to be vigilant and, if they see the van described, to call 613-549-4660 and safely report its location, direction if mobile, a licence plate number and a description of any occupants.
