Las Vegas cat hoarder charged with cruelty for the 4th time in less than 4 years

NEVADA -- A  Las Vegas woman has been charged with cat hoarding for the fourth time in less than four years.

KLAS-TV reports that animal control removed 18 cats from unsanitary conditions in the woman's extended stay motel room on Tuesday night.

The woman currently has two separate pending cases against her. In one case, Animal Control found her living with more than 100 cats.

Animal rights advocates say the woman needs behavioral health treatment.

Psychologist Dr. Louis Mortillaro says hoarding is not a mental disorder but can be associated with problems like dementia, Asperger's syndrome and obsessive compulsive disorder.

He says people sometimes develop affection for animals because they have trouble with human relationships.

The woman is due in court Thursday for another case and on August 13 for the recent charges.
