Mother, son face animal cruelty charges

NEW YORK -- A Cambridge mother and son face eight counts of animal cruelty following an investigation by Washington County Sheriff’s Office into an animal abuse complaint.

Police said they responded Friday to a report of possible neglected cats at a home on Plains Road in Jackson. Sheriff’s deputies said they found a total of eight cats living in deplorable conditions inside crates in a hot room and were filled with overloaded litter boxes.

Following an investigation the cats were found to be without proper food and water, and after evaluation by an SPCA veterinarian, many of the felines were found to have severe medical problems. Problems included respiratory, eye, nose and mouth infections and the cats were also underweight, according to the veterinarian.

Jacqueline Winterrowd, 66, and her son Joshua M. Winterrowd, 34, of Plains Road were charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty. The pair were processed and released to appear in Town of Jackson Court at a later date.

The cats are currently under the care of the SPCA.
