OHIO -- State of Ohio v. Michael Carroll, a case prosecuted for Lake Humane Society in Willoughby Municipal Court.
Carroll was charged with 4 counts of animal cruelty related to his care of 1 dog, 7 cats, and a hedgehog. The animals were kept in filthy conditions and had various untreated veterinary conditions.
Carroll pled guilty to all four counts.
Carroll was sentenced to pay $175 in fines, court costs, and $260 in restitution to Lake Humane. He will be on three years of probation, during which time he cannot own or possess animals. Carroll is thereafter banned indefinitely from owning companion animals unless the Court later orders otherwise upon application. LHS is permitted to conduct random inspections to ensure compliance. 360 days of jail was imposed and suspended.
Several of the cats and the hedgehog are still available for adoption at Lake Humane.
