PENNSYLVANIA -- A Springdale Township dog owner whose pit bull mauled a neighbor’s pet says he expects to face charges.
James Puorro says he owns six put bulls, and two bull dogs.
On Thursday night, one of the pit bulls got out of his pen, crawled under a neighbor’s deck and attacked a Pomeranian named Benny.
Eileen Vansach, who lives next door to Puorro, says her husband went out to call Benny in, and the pit bull came out from behind their hot tub with Benny in his mouth.
Vansach told KDKA TV’s Ralph Iannotti, “We’ve been complaining about the neighbor’s dogs for years, but neither the police nor animal control does anything about it.”
Puorro, close to tears, apologized for the attack. He said his dog has now been quarantined for next week to 10 days. He described the attack as “a terrible accident.”
“I didn’t know [Vansach’s] dog was out there, I would have never let him out,” Puorro said. “My dog got out because their dog was barking at him.”
Vansach said, “We don’t need a kennel in this neighborhood. This is a family neighborhood, not a dog neighborhood. If you want dogs, go out in the country.”
