Florida: Six year-old girl mauled by dog after being kidnapped by aunt

FLORIDA -- Police say an overnight abduction led to a child being mauled by a dog.

Authorities in Cape Coral say a woman called police after her 6-year-old niece and 10-year-old nephew disappeared.

The woman added that purses had been stolen from the apartment.

She said her sister was just released from jail, and was likely behind the abduction.

Authorities learned the children’s aunt, Kristina Pantalias, had allegedly stolen a car and used that vehicle to kidnap the kids.

While they were in her care, police allege that one of the kids was mauled by a dog.

A friend of Pantalias took the injured child to the emergency room.

Lee Memorial Hospital ended up calling the child’s school, saying she was in the emergency room following an attack by a dog.

The hospital asked the school to call the girl’s parents because the woman who brought her to the hospital couldn’t answer basic questions about her.

Police say the girl suffered multiple cuts and deep puncture wounds to both sides of her face, which required multiple stitches.

After tracking down Pantalias, police say she was “high on meth” and had the children in a “drug apartment.”

Authorities discovered the other child at the apartment, along with a purse and bloody towels on the floor.

Officers also discovered heroin, methadone and suboxone inside the child’s pockets.

Pantalias was arrested for kidnapping and grand theft.
