AUSTRALIA -- Two people are in a stable condition in hospital following surgery for injuries they suffered during a dog attack in Sydney's west.
A man and a woman returned to their home on Church Street in Castlereagh to find two dogs inside their chicken coop, attacking the chickens and ducks, police said.
The 26-year-old woman went into the enclosure while the man, 28, was inside the house looking for restraints for the animals.
He then heard the woman screaming and ran outside to find her pinned to the ground and being mauled by what officers said was a cross Ridgeback breed.
The man was able to free the woman but was then attacked himself.
He sustained a deep bite to his arm and lacerations to his hand and abdomen.
The woman sustained a serious wound to her face and multiple bites to her arms and torso.
Police said both the dogs fled eventually and emergency services were called.
The owner of the dogs was contacted by police and officers said one dog was destroyed, but the second dog was still missing.
