TENNESSEE -- A Louisville man and a Maryville woman were charged in separate incidents involved animal cruelty Monday.
Robert York Stallings, 44, Wonderland Drive, Louisville, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty by Blount County Sheriff’s Office, as was Victoria Cottrill Sneed, 44, of Maryville.
Both individuals were released on a $1,500 bond pending hearings on May 13.
According to BCSO reports, York’s neighbor, Donnie Wayne Debuty reported on May 3 that while walking in his backyard, he heard his dog yelp.
Debuty’s dog had apparently been shot with a pellet gun, reports said, and a window was open in the rear of Stallings’ home. Reports said Debuty confronted Stallings, who admitted to shooting the animal. Debuty’s dog was taken to a veterinary clinic, but there were no reports on its condition.
Stallings reportedly told deputies that the dog was in his backyard when he shot it, and that it had growled at him two days prior.
Sneed’s case dates to September 2012, when investigators discovered more than 30 dead chickens on the Woodland Drive property where Sneed had been living.
According to Blount County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals investigator Crystal Wallace, Sneed had been hoarding huge numbers of birds on the rental property, and abandoned them when she left the home.
Sneed said investigators found dead chickens and roosters of various breeds lying dead in the yard, and wrapped up in garbage bags. Thirty-seven birds were rescued and placed in new homes by the BCSPCA.
Wallace said investigators took out a warrant on Sneed, but were unable to locate her until recently.
