Owner of dog set on fire identified as Arthur Vieira, charged with animal cruelty

VIRGINIA -- Officials have identified and charged the owner of a dog that was found dead after it was allegedly bound and set on fire in Virginia Beach.

Officials charged 26-year-old Arthur M Vieira with felony animal cruelty, misdemeanor obstructing justice and misdemeanor dumping companion animals on private property.


 
On May 29, officials found a pit bull-type dog who was involved in a brush fire in the 1200 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard.

Investigators said the dogs front and rear legs were bound together and the dog was still alive when it was set on fire.

 

Vieira is being held in the Virginia Beach Correction Center without bond.

As this case remains under investigation, the Virginia Beach Fire Department may obtain additional charges.
