Animal cruelty being investigated after deputies find starving and dead animals

TENNESSEE -- A deputy investigating an on-going domestic situation discovered the possibility of animal cruelty through abandonment involving two dogs and some chickens.

The situation was first reported July 5 when Deputy Jon Wirey responded to an address on Dogwood Rd. He was instructed to check on whether an order of protection was being observed.

The residence was reportedly in the custody of the wife involved in the domestic dispute. She had been given 30 days to vacate the property.

When Wirey arrived around midnight, he was told by the male involved in the dispute that the man discovered two dogs in "poor health from starvation. Their ribs were showing excessively."

He added in his report that the water bowls were muddy but had water due to recent rains.

Inside a chicken coop were found two dead chickens and "one hen in the hen house that was rotting."

Photographs were taken. Investigators were unable to locate the female to question her about the situation.
