Animal cruelty, theft suspect Lindsay Tyus arrested on drug charges

FLORIDA --  A local woman accused of 17 counts of felony animal cruelty and wanted for questioning in connection with a multistate theft ring is in jail again after warrant officers arrested her on drug charges and for failing to appear in court, according to court records.

Deputies serving the warrant Wednesday on 33-year-old Lindsay Renee Tyus, formerly Lindsay Sanders, said they found her in a Days Inn motel in the process of injecting liquid alprazolam into a toe vein. Officers reported several other items of paraphernalia and a small amount of cannabis were scattered on the bed. Tyus was taken to jail on charges of possessing narcotics and paraphernalia, Bay County Sheriff’s Office reports indicated.

Thomas Allen Price, 22, who was in the room allegedly helping Tyus inject, also was arrested on similar charges, BCSO reported.

Authorities sought Tyus in connection with a couple of incidents, including what Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) officials are investigating as a multistate theft ring. A truck registered to Tyus’ husband was discovered last week outside an abandoned home in the county. Tyus’ husband, however, is in custody in another county.

Inside the home, officers found several guns where a group of people had been squatting. Some of the guns had been reported stolen in Enterprise, Ala., and Atlanta, officials reported.

Authorities arrested two people, but Tyus was nowhere to be found on the property. Officers said they suspect at least six people were connected with the theft ring.

Officials reached out to Tyus’ family to question her about the truck, but the family said they had not seen her for some time. In that time, Tyus did not show up to a June court hearing about a hit-and-run accident. Her attorney attempted to quash the warrant and filed a waiver of appearance the day before she was expected to appear in court on 17 counts of felony animal cruelty, according to court records.
However, the warrant proceeded and authorities caught up to Tyus a day later, on Wednesday.

Tyus’ troubles began in February.

She initially was arrested and later charged with 17 felony animal cruelty charges after BCSO discovered what they called a Great Dane “puppy mill” at her Youngstown home. Several dead or emaciated dogs were found on the property.

After posting a $17,000 bond, Tyus allegedly left the scene of an accident with property damage. Her truck later was spotted at the sight of Calhoun County property containing the stolen guns.

After being arrested Wednesday, Tyus’ bond was revoked and a judge ruled she is to be held without bond. Her next court date is scheduled for August, according to court records.

Price, the man in the hotel with her, is also being held without bond, court records indicated.
