“He was part of our family and it was very hurtful,” said the dog’s owner, Arlene Farrington.
Things around the Farrington household are different Friday. There is a sense of loss.
RIP little Mojo |
Around 7 a.m. Thursday, the Farringtons took their eight-pound dog Mojo out in the front yard of their home along Elder Avenue. They tied his leash to a tree and went inside. Minutes later, there was a bang on the door.
“Right here is where they got him,” Bennie said, pointing towards a spot in the yard.
Three rottweilers from the house a street over had attacked the small dog. Bennie did what he could to pry Mojo away from the biting Rottweilers.
“I got them off, but they were still trying to get him,” Bennie said. “They were trying to get him in the house, once I got him in the house.”
Mojo was severely injured, and the family rushed the small dog to the vet.
“He was hurt pretty bad,” Bennie said. “He was bleeding on right side. He was panting real hard. He couldn’t hardly breathe.”
The vet told the Farringtons Mojo had internal bleeding. They were forced to put him down.
“We had to,” Arlene said. “We couldn’t see him suffer, and basically, that’s what we were doing, was letting him suffer.”
It was decision the family will never forget.
“I was very hurt,” she said. “I’ve never had to do that. I never had to do that with my kids.”
Animal control officers caught three dogs a couple blocks over. 10 On Your Side was told charges are pending against the owner. 10 On Your Side has also learned police have been called to the home on Laurel Avenue several times over the past few years for dog complaints.
“They viciously attacked our dog, and we feel that they should be put down as well,” Arlene said.
