ARIZONA -- A Youngtown woman is facing charges after a pit bull she was taking care of died from heat and lack of shelter.
Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrested 25-year-old Connie Eileen Schuneman on suspicion of animal abuse.
Schuneman was booked into jail Wednesday and released.
She doesn't have a lawyer yet and her next court appearance is scheduled for July 15.
Court records show Schuneman had been watching the dogs for her roommate when a deputy following up on an animal-abuse complaint found the dog's carcass on June 17.
A veterinarian examined the dog and determined it had been dead for 36 to 48 hours.
The cause of death was listed as heat and lack of shelter.
