Joseph Castellanos beats girlfriend, tries to stuff her in oven, stomps and kicks her dog as it hid underneath a table

UTAH -- A Utah man stabbed his girlfriend with a fork, doused her with condiments and tried to shove her in an oven, authorities said.

Joseph Castellanos, 31, allegedly tortured the woman in a rage after she was slow to respond to Facebook messages he sent from work.

Details of the brutal attack, contained in court documents obtained by KSL, described a night of twisted violence.

Castellanos slapped the woman with a belt buckle, stabbed her at least six times, kicked her, punched her and urinated on her, authorities said.

He held a knife at her throat and threatened to kill her, according to the report.

Castellanos allegedly poured ranch dressing and hot sauce on the woman and tried to wrestle her into the oven, forcing her legs inside before he decided instead to boil water so he could try to scald her with it.

Not even the woman’s dog was safe. Castellanos stomped the animal and tried to kick it as it cowered beneath a table, authorities said.

The battered woman was eventually able to duck into a bathroom and call 911 from a hidden cellphone.

“He tried to kill me,” she told a dispatcher.

The cowardly attacker tried to persuade his bruised and bloodied girlfriend to claim she was mauled by someone else at a train station when police officers arrived at their home in the Salt Lake City suburb of Sandy, authorities said.

The June 26 assault was the second hours-long beating in a month, the woman told police, according to KSL.

Castellanos had previously stabbed her in the leg, tied her up and threw her in a bathtub of hot water, she said.

She tried to escape, but he dragged her home by her hair for another beating, authorities said.
He told her he loved her the next morning, and then raped her twice when she didn’t say it back, authorities said.

Castellanos faces 14 charges in alleged attacks, including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, forcible sodomy and aggravated cruelty to animals, court records showed.

He was jailed on $100,000 bail.
