Neighbors Say Pit bull Attacks Injure Two People

INDIANA -- Michael Foster says dog attacks in his neighborhood are not a rarity. He would know, having been bitten before.

"There are all kinds of dogs always running loose and most of them are really nice, but there are some that will terrorize and attack you and won't think twice," he said.

 

Saturday afternoon, Foster and other neighbors said five pit bulls living in a home in the 1600 block of Linwood Avenue got loose. According to neighbors, the dogs bit two people.

"They start terrorizing people and two people got injured and the dogs got back into the house and shut the door," Foster said.

When police arrived at the scene, neighbors said the dogs were already back in the home. Police broke through the door, and according to neighbors, police shot two of the dogs.

Eyewitness News saw one of the dogs leaving in a bag. Neighbors said animal control arrived and took away the remaining three dogs.

"I'm afraid to go out at night and walk my own dog because I'm afraid I'm going to get bit by someone else's dog," Foster said.

 And while pit bulls may have a bad reputation for attacks like this one, Foster believes it isn't their fault.

"It's the owner," he said. "Don't matter what kind of breed. It's the owner."

Oh yes, the oft-repeated 'Blame the deed and not the breed.' But what about dogs that are raised from puppies in a loving home with the family who then turn on them???

Neighbors told Eyewitness News the two people bitten by the dogs were taken to the hospital. There is still no word on their condition.
