Massachusetts: New Bedford residents, Sabrina Harding and her boyfriend Jake Brousseau, indicted on animal cruelty charges

MASSACHUSETTS -- Two New Bedford residents have been indicted on six counts each of animal cruelty, Bristol County prosecutors said Friday.

Officials said they found dozens of dead and mistreated animals in the South Second Street apartment of Sabrina Harding and Jake Brousseau on June 10.

Harding, 23, and Brousseau, 24, will be arraigned on the indictment at a later date.

Police found 46 animals in the defendants' apartment, 23 of them were dead. The 23 surviving animals were 11 birds, six reptiles, five cats and one dog.

The district attorney said 20 of the animals have found new homes.

Harding and Brousseau are also accused of keeping animals behind a condemned house in Tiverton, but they will likely not face criminal charges in Rhode Island. Police said the animals were relatively healthy.
