OHIO -- State of Ohio v. Debbie and Jerry Kundrath, a case prosecuted for Lake Humane Society.
The Kundraths were charged with animal neglect related to the care of their two dogs, Belle and Coco. Both dogs suffered from ear infections, scaling of the skin, yeast and bacterial skin infections, and fur loss. They were highly pruritic.
Humane Agents had visited the Kundraths' home several times to educate the owners and monitor the situation, but ultimately seized the dogs after their condition had worsened and agents discovered that the Kundraths were not compliant with making follow-up veterinary appointments.
The Kundraths each pled guilty to one count of animal neglect.
They were sentenced to five years of probation, during which time they cannot own, keep or possess animals. LHS is permitted to conduct random inspections to ensure compliance. The Kundraths must complete mental health evaluations and follow up with recommended treatment, if any.
If they fail to comply with these conditions, they face 90 days in jail each.
