TEXAS -- Waller County veterinarian has been accused of animal cruelty and several horses she owns were seized Friday.
Investigators said two of the horses at the home in Hockley were near death.
The Waller County District Attorney's Office said Kathie Digilio will be charged after a lengthy investigation. A warrant has been issued for her arrest. The DA said her horses have not been getting the care they need.
Volunteers and Waller County Sheriff's deputies began rounding up the horses Friday afternoon. A specialist from Texas A&M was brought in to examine them.
Neighbors had been complaining about the condition of the horses for years.
The Waller County DA Elton Mathis said their investigation was both helped and hindered by social media posts.
"We've had a lot of people that get on social media for attention and they've spread information that's not correct," Mathis said.
Digilio's attorney said she's the victim of a neighborhood vendetta.
"This is a veterinarian who loves and cares and has educated herself to take care of animals to ensure their health and their strength and their safety," Rocket Rosen said. "It's shocking, traumatic and it's not right."
Rosen said Digilio will turn herself in on Monday.
The horses are being cared for by an animal rescue group.
