INDIANA -- A three-year-old boy is recovering from a serious dog bite.
Neighbors tell Eyewitness News the boy was mauled by his family's pit bull in the 800 block of Jackson Avenue Wednesday night.
Evansville Police Department officers responded to a call at 840 Jackson Ave. concerning a child being bitten by a dog about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday. There, an officer saw a boy being held by a teenager who was later identified as his babysitter, according to a department news release.
The boy had a large cut that ran from his jaw to near his right ear, and his lower right arm appeared to be broken. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment.
Evansville Animal Control will keep the dog under quarantine for ten days. Evansville Police are still investigating the incident.
