Ohio: Akron woman, Traci Fitt, facing animal cruelty charges after officers find 12 dead cats

OHIO -- A woman was arrested after police found a dozen dead cats inside her Akron home.

Traci Fitt, 39, is charged with four counts of animal cruelty. The Humane Society of Greater Akron rescued nine cats, three guinea pigs, 19 beta fish, four dogs and other exotic animals from her house on Manitou Avenue.

“Initially called to the house to investigate an ominous stench, local authorities were taken aback from the devastating conditions inside the home,” the humane society said in a news release on Tuesday. Neighbors said the smell was unbearable.

Humane officers are trying to trap the remaining cats. They also removed a tank used to house hissing cockroaches.

According to Akron police, the house was condemned by the health department and had no running water.
