VIRGINIA -- It was an usual rescue call for a Virginia Beach police officer.
Wednesday around 5:30 a.m., officers in the 1000 block of Atlantis Drive worked to save a raccoon that got its head stuck in a jar.
Pictures show the officer on the sidewalk with the struggling raccoon. It was using its paws to try to slip out of the glass Miracle Whip jar and the officer was holding the jar and angling it as he tried to free the animal.
After about 30 minutes, the raccoon was freed and it ran off.
The Virginia Beach Police Department posted on their Facebook page:
Sometimes when you’re stuck in a jam all you need is a helping hand
One of our officers got a strange call this past Wednesday morning around 5:30 a.m. A little bandit was trying to clean out the remaining mayo from a jar when he got stuck. That’s when Officer Joseph Schmeer came along. After about 10 minutes, with a little tugging and turning, Officer Schmeer was able to free the little fellow and sent him on his way, up a tree.
Thank you Officer Schmeer, we’re sure this little guy appreciated it more than you know.
