Brando Maldonado and Melissa Broadbent accused of scalding dog with hot water, resulting in serious injuries - and encouraging the children to lie to police about it

NEW YORK -- Police in Batavia have arrested two people on animal cruelty charges.

Officers say last month, 26 year-old Brandon Maldonado and 36 year-old Melissa Broadbent, both of Batavia, poured scalding hot water on a young pit bull, Rocky.

Police say the water that was poured on Rocky caused second degree burns to the dogs shoulders, rib cage and a lot of pain.

Officers say through the investigation, it was determined Broadbent lied to officers and encouraged her children to do the same in an effort to keep Maldonado from being arrested.

Rocky was treated for his injuries and is now in the care of the Genesee County Animal Shelter.

The couple is being held at the Genesee County Jail without bail.

NOTE: Maldonado was on parole for other crimes at the time of this newest arrest. Sounds like a wonderful guy to have around children!
