Dog found dead in cooler in New Brighton; police seek information

NEW YORK -- Police are looking for information in regard to an animal cruelty case after a dead dog was found in New Brighton last month.

On June 27 at approximately 9 a.m., the small dog was found in a cooler in the back of the home at 124 Hendricks Ave., near the corner of Jersey Street, police said.

"We don't know how it got here," said a man who lived at the residence. "We just called the police. It looked like the dog was suffocated in the cooler."

Police said the cause of death is unknown, and a spokeswoman from the ASPCA said the organization is looking into the incident.

Police have circulated fliers in the neighborhood and are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for any information that leads to the arrest and indictment of a suspect in the case.

Anyone with information can call the NYPD at 1-800-577-8457 (TIPS).
