NORTH CAROLINA -- A woman has been charged with almost 30 counts of animal cruelty.
On July 21, 2015, the Animal Services responded to a complaint of two dogs running on Sybil Drive.
While investigating, authorities discovered a strong smell of urine and feces coming from the suspected residence. They also observed dogs in crates inside the residence and heard dogs barking.
Police identified Sandra Lehto as the occupant of the residence.
Officials surrendered all 31 dogs to the Durham County Animal Protection Society.
One of the dogs had to be immediately euthanized because of severe injury.
