GEORGIA -- A nervous pooch tested positive for meth at a Talmo, Ga., animal hospital leading to an animal cruelty charge for the pup’s owner, authorities said.
The mixed-terrier’s owner, Marty Rogers, 47, brought “Little Guy” to the Hoschton Animal Hospital last week because the dog appeared to be sick, according to Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
“It was sick and he took it to see if they could him what was wrong with it,” Capt. Rich Lott told Morris News Service.
The first thing veterinarians observed in the Little Guy’s behavior was that it restlessly paced their office during the Aug. 18 examination while panting, according to a police report obtained by the Smoking Gun.
“Little Guy was extremely nervous,” veterinarians told deputies.
His behavior merited a meth test, which came out positive. Authorities believe the dog ingested meth at Rogers’ Talmo home.
Jackson County Animal Control officers have taken custody of Little Guy.
Rogers initially faced one count of animal cruelty, but the discovery of a meth stash and stolen motorcycle out of South Carolina at Talmo’s home has led to additional drug and theft charges.
Rogers turned up on Jackson County Sheriff’s Office radar last year when he was allegedly caught with meth and a handgun during a Sept. 2014 traffic stop.
