Kayakers save deer in Lake Superior

WISCONSIN -- You can see a lot of wonderful things while kayaking the sea caves along Lake Superior.

But recently some boaters came upon something they really didn't expect; a deer in the water.
The three kayakers met an eight-point buck.

Park rangers believe the deer jumped off a 60-foot cliff near Bayfield before getting stuck in one of the caves.

The kayakers say the buck looked weak, so they knew they had to help him. So one of them started doing deer calls to coax him out.

"I think he recognized that even though I am human, I was trying to help him. Because I talk and do deer calls and later he just calmed down a little," said Jen Boyd.

The deer swam next to their kayaks until they got to land.

The kayakers say they had some rope handy, but didn't have to use it.
