Saved from cat-astrophe! Tense video shows crowd's desperate attempts to rescue crying feline hanging on to a window by its claws

UNITED KINGDOM -- Pub-goers rallied together to save the life of a cat they found hanging-on for dear life from a window high above a concrete street.

Pixie the house cat decided she wanted to leave the house she shares with owners Michael McDonald and Noreen Cosgrave while the were asleep shortly after 2am on Sunday.

But the young feline's planned night on the tiles in Wexford, Ireland, nearly all became too literal, as she came seconds from falling to her death after jumping from a bathroom window 20 feet off the ground.

Pixie's escape went awry when she discovered just how high up she was. Panicked, she then quickly reached out her paws to grab hold of the window's wooden frame.

She was then trapped two stories up, with her legs dangling below in what was already a race against time.

Her plight was caught on film by one passer-by, who recorded the entire incident.

The video, which was then shared online, shows a number of desperate bystanders coming together to discuss how best to save the stranded puss.

They can be heard hatching a plan which involves moving a nearby taxi underneath the window to break Pixie's fall when her tired arms eventually gave way.

After agreeing, the cabbie maneuvered his vehicle into position as the gathered crowd anxiously waited.

When she eventually lost her grip, Pixie fell directly on to the car, landing comfortably before strolling off - much to the relief of those gathered around.

Pub landlord Michael McDonald - who lives above The Foggy Dew bar, which he owns, - said: 'We have two house cats who live above the pub with us.

'We left the window ajar on Sunday night and Pixie just jumped out. She could have jumped on to the ledge below the window, but clearly opted to hang on for dear life instead.'

He added: Noreen and I were fast asleep the whole time but a fair crowd gathered to help her. The taxi was eventually driven underneath her so that when - after more than three minutes - she fell, she at least didn't fall too far.

'She's a little rascal - if there's any mischief to be had, she will be involved. We never tend to allow either of the cats out because of the cars on the road. It was a bit of a shock but after seeing the video we're glad she's okay. She could get the gold medal for holding on, that's for sure!'
