The first one happened at about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday at Cuellar Park and the other attack happened on the campus of the post office, both located on San Fernando Street on the city's West Side.
J.D. Mendez, 21, said he was walking home from the store when he was attacked by the two pit bulls.
"There was one pit bull at the time," Mendez said. "I was trying to fend it off with my bag of groceries and everything. The other one came from behind and bit my leg. The other one was trying to go after my face so, I was fending it off. I got up and that's when it bit me in my arm."
Mendez needed 11 stitches after being bitten on both arms and legs, but at least he got away.
"The only thing honestly that came to mind was my son and I knew that if I didn't fight that the dogs would have honestly killed me," Mendez said. "It's easy for them. They are pit bulls and stuff. So, I ripped my leg loose and just ran."
And, just one hour after Mendez was attacked at Cuellar Park, the two pit bulls went after another man across the street at the post office.
"A 64-year-old man was on the Postal Service property, he was putting up a flag and while he was doing so, a couple of dogs came through and looks like they attacked him," Lisa Norwood with Animal Care Services said. "They bit him on either leg. It's our understanding that EMS (Emergency Medical Services) was on another call and happened to see that he was getting attacked by the dogs so, they were able to get to him very quickly."
Workers with animal care services were able to track down and pick up one of the dogs on Saturday afternoon.
Norwood said it did have a collar and when they track down the owner, that person will face a number of citations.
However, with one of the pit bulls still on the loose, Mendez said he's not bringing his 1-year-old son out and is just glad he didn't have him while he was walking outside on Saturday morning.
