TEXAS -- A man was jailed Tuesday after officials say two horses and a mule died on his property near Moody when he never gave them water.
Ambrosio Gonzalez-Mondragon, 74, was charged with animal cruelty, according to legal documents filed in the case.
A necropsy — an autopsy for animals — was not performed, said McLennan County Sheriff’s Detective Joseph Scaramucci, but “the fact that there was a bare-boned trough and no running water shows he failed to reasonably provide water.”
The animals were there for about a month, Scaramucci said.
Officials were called on an animal cruelty allegation on July 27, and an affidavit says Gonzalez-Mondragon was told he would need to provide water for the animals, since there was no running water on the property.
The horses and mule were later found dead, and officials determined that the water troughs were dry and looked like they had never been used.
Gonzalez-Mondragon was booked in to the McLennan County Jail on Tuesday. He was released later that day on a $2,000 bond.
