Dog attack victim dragged from roof of car in bloody jaws of pit bull-like beast

UNITED KINGDOM -- Police had to seal off a street after a savage dog attack in which the animal dragged its badly injured victim from the roof of a car.

Witnesses said they saw the man scramble on top of the vehicle car to try to escape but the dog pulled him to the ground.

The dog - believed to be either a pit bull or a bull mastiff - had blood dripping from its jaws, according to passers-by.

One witness described the attack as "horrendous" and said the man's shredded clothes lay in tatters in Kent Street, Liverpool.

One man tried to stop the attack by hitting the beast with a stick while a grandmother with heart problems squirted water in the dog's face from her mobility scooter in an attempt to distract it.

Residents were told to stay away and several specialist response units with shields and dogs were called in.

Early reports said the victim was the dog owner but later claims suggest it was an intruder on the garden path, reports the Liverpool Echo .

The victim was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital with wounds to his arms and leg.
It is understood police marksmen were called to the scene but the whereabouts of the dog was not known.

An eye witness said: "The man was caught up in his trousers - he couldn't get away. The dog's mouth was covered in blood, it was awful."
