Captain James Ryan of the South Brunswick Police Department said his department and the Emergency Medical Service received calls for help around 8:45 a.m. to come to a home on Avenue B, where two people had been injured by dog bites.
When they arrived, they found that owners of the home there had three dogs, a boxer, a pit bull and a pug. The problem started when the boxer and pit bull went after the pug, then began fighting each other.

Then the grandmother tried to intervene, and she received a serious head laceration. Other family members finally were able to stop the fighting before police arrived.
The girl and her grandmother were taken by the Kendall Park First Aid Squad to St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, where they were admitted, Ryan said.
South Animal Control has taken custody of the boxer and pit bull, Ryan said, but there is no word on whether they are up to date on their rabies shots. He has no word on what will be done with the dogs. The pug remains with its owners.
