Lagana was charged with two felonies:
Robbery - 812.13(2C) (Bond  $10,000)
Animal Cruelty - 828.12(2) (Bond $500)

812.13 Robbery.—
“Robbery” means the taking of money or other property which may be the subject of larceny from the person or custody of another, with intent to either permanently or temporarily deprive the person or the owner of the money or other property, when in the course of the taking there is the use of force, violence, assault, or putting in fear.

If in the course of committing the robbery the offender carried no firearm, deadly weapon, or other weapon, then the robbery is a felony of the second degree.

828.12 Cruelty to animals.—
A person who intentionally commits an act to any animal, or a person who owns or has the custody or control of any animal and fails to act, which results in the cruel death, or excessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering, or causes the same to be done, commits aggravated animal cruelty, a felony of the third degree.

Although I couldn't find any details about this case, my guess would be that he robbed someone and, although it says he didn't have a gun, he did something to an animal that resulted in near death or deathly injuries.

The laws in Florida appear to say that if someone walks up to you and says, "Give me your watch" and then walks away it's a 2nd degree felony. However, if someone walks up to you and suddenly beats your dog with a baseball bat, breaking its jaw, knocking out its eye, breaking all of its bones and beating it to death in front of you it's a lesser crime (3rd degree felony).
