Dead chickens found at south Macon home;George McGuire, 59, charged with felony animal cruelty

GEORGIA -- As of Thursday night, officials counted 19 dead chickens at a south Macon home.

More than 17 chickens were found in unsanitary conditions with the man who lives at 6424 Houston Road. Police arrested 59-year-old George McGuire and charged him with felony animal cruelty.

Sophia Danner-Okotie was there as officials pulled out the dead animals.

"It's pretty bad," Sonja Adams, of Macon-Bibb's Animal Welfare, said. "They're almost stuck to the cages. This is not something that's occurred within a day or so."

She says an anonymous tipster reported the cruelty to officials Thursday evening. When officers got inside the home, things got worse.

"There's human feces in there. There's feces from animals. If anyone's ever smelled cat urine, multiply that by 500 cats times about six months of just sitting there," Adams said.

"He does live at this residence along with the animals," said Deputy Clay Williams with the Macon-Bibb Sheriff's office.

Both the sheriff's office and animal control say they take animal cruelty seriously and will bring offenders to justice.

"This is unacceptable, and this man is going to jail because of that," Adams said.
