Luis Jimenez, 18, Sadiel Iglesias, 19, arrested after allegedly brutally killing Yorkie during Hialeah burglary

FLORIDA -- Two teenagers linked to a string of burglaries were put behind bars days after, police said, they broke into a home in Hialeah and brutally killed the family pet.

According to Hialeah Police, 18-year-old Luis Jimenez and 19-year-old Sadiel Iglesias targeted the homeowner's 6-year-old Yorkie during Thursday's break-in.

Even though they're legally adults, I'm including the tag "child is abuser" as they're close to being minors.

"We're very pleased to have gotten these low-life criminals off the streets that are capable of doing such a cruel crime," said Hialeah Police Sgt. Carl Zogby.

Jimenez had nothing to say other than a curse word as he was put in the back of a cruiser.

Homeowner Josue Delatorre, who shares the home with his pregnant wife, her mother and two young daughters, said he's feeling a range of emotions in the wake of the perpetrators' alleged actions. "I'm sad, angry, devastated," he said.

Delatorre told 7News his mother-in-law was the first one to find their beloved pet. "She found the dog lying on the bottom of the staircase with blood everywhere, and dead," he said.

The homeowner said he can't help but ask why the teens could not have just taken what they wanted and left, adding that he has yet to explain the dog's death to his little girls. "If they would have taken everything. We gave [them] our TVs  I would have been fine with that as long as the dog was still alive," he said.

Police said the home was ransacked, but detectives were able to make a connection that resulted in Iglesias and Jimenez's arrests on Saturday. They have been charged with burglary, animal cruelty, grand theft and criminal mischief. "It gave us great satisfaction to quickly investigate this crime and today catch up to these two delinquents and get them off the street," said Zogby.

Detectives said they had been working around the clock since the incident, and they have since charged each of the suspects with seven additional burglary cases.
