Owner devastated after Chihuahua beaten to death by granddaughter's boyfriend

FLORIDA -- A South Florida pet owner is still reeling weeks after, authorities said, her granddaughter's boyfriend beat her 5-year-old Chihuahua to death, a chilling crime that was partly caught on camera.

Marisol More said her beloved Kira went missing from her Southwest Miami-Dade home on Oct. 8.

RIP Kira

"I looked everywhere -- in the street, under the furniture. I couldn't find her," she said through a translator.

The disappearance hit More hard, since she and her pet were very close.

"She was my baby. Since she was little. She would sleep with me," she said. "We were always together, 24 hours."

When More and her son turned to their home's surveillance video for clues, they saw her
granddaughter's boyfriend, identified by investigators as Ryan Gutierrez, tormenting Kira over and over again.

At one point, the footage shows Gutierrez walking outside, the Chihuahua in his hand, and it appears, in the distance, that he throws the canine down on the pool deck.

Back inside the house, the video captures Gutierrez slamming Kira against the refrigerator before dangling her by one of her hind legs over the other three dogs in the house.

"There is no reason that could possibly justify this act," said More.

The beating went on for more than a half an hour, much of it off camera, though the other dogs are clearly terrified of what they're watching down the hall, as he is seen storming away with one shoe in hand.

Finally, police said, Gutierrez left with the dead dog in his book bag. According to his arrest affidavit, Gutierrez then drove across the street behind a business and tossed the backpack -- with Kira's corpse still inside -- into a Dumpster.

Gutierrez was later taken into custody. After his arrest, police said, he made a full confession via an electronically taped statement.

Appearing before a judge Wednesday, More said Gutierrez showed no remorse. The judge approved a restraining order against him.

More is now left with just videos and pictures of her companion, and a sense of how painful Kira's final minutes were. "I feel very bad, very bad  I have no way to get out of the loss of the dog," she said. "I miss her terribly."

Gutierrez is out of jail on $5,000 bond. He has been charged with one count of animal cruelty.
