Shayna Tabachneck, 39, pleaded guilty to starving her dogs to death

NEW YORK -- A Mechanicville woman pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, on Wednesday, according to the Saratoga County District Attorney's office.

In July, troopers found two dead dogs in garbage bags dumped in a shed behind Malta Gardens Park as well as a third dead dog in a bedroom and an emaciated male pit bull as well as five cats, according to a police report at the time. Neighbors had complained of a strong odor coming from a home.

Shayna Tabachneck was charged in July. She was arraigned and jailed on $2,500 bail at the time. A number listed for Tabachneck had been disconnected, and she did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 27, according to prosecutors.

Note: She had also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child as her 14-year-old son was living in the home with her and the animals. The article doesn't mention if they dismissed this charge in exchange for her guilty plea in the cruelty to animals charges. My guess is yes.
