East Stroudsburg man, Robert Keller, pleads no contest to animal neglect charge

PENNSYLVANIA -- An East Stroudsburg man has pleaded no contest to charges he failed to give needed care for a horse's bad teeth and harmed the animal's health as a result, the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said Tuesday.

Robert Keller pleaded no contest Monday to failing to provide necessary veterinary care to the quarter horse, which a PSPCA humane officer found in poor condition early this year in Middle Smithfield Township.

"On Jan. 9, 2015, a PSPCA humane law enforcement officer executed a search warrant on Keller's property, finding the horse in an emaciated condition with its ribs and hip bones protruding," the PSPCA said in a news release. "Keller surrendered the horse to the PSPCA, along with two rabbits, all of whom have been rehabilitated at the PSPCA Central Pennsylvania Center at Danville."

With the no contest plea, he agreed to a $50 fine and monthly inspections of his property.
