Fort Collins man, Alec Peyton, arrested after dog reportedly mauled girl in Breckenridge

COLORADO -- Breckenridge police officers arrested a Fort Collins man after his dog reportedly attacked a young girl.

According to police, Alec Peyton's dog mauled a 6-year-old girl at the Village at Breckenridge on Dec. 10.

The girl's parent reportedly asked to pet the dog and Peyton said it was OK.

The girl was bitten in the face and was hospitalized for her injuries, the Summit Daily said.

Peyton left the scene without identifying himself to the girl's parents, police said.

He now faces several charges, including a felony count of child abuse, as well as reckless endangerment and unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog.

If found guilty of the felony charge, Peyton could face up to 12 years in prison.

The dog is being quarantined at the Larimer County Humane Society.

  1. Yes! Felony child abuse! It would be good if everyone, including parents and other relatives, were charged with that when they bring a pit bull type into the home and it so much as nips a child.
