Maine: Family sets up donation account after little girl attacked by dog her grandparents had adopted from the local shelter

MAINE -- On November 28th Emily finally moved back to Maine with Payton and Andrew! We were so happy to have our Payton home and I know she was happy to see her family!

They settled in for the night and decided to bring Payton to see her Meme (Diane which is Emilys grandmother) the next day! Boy was Meme happy to be reunited with her "Punky Do" Meme and Papa adopted a dog from the animal shelter and they were told he was a stray dog and that's all the background they got!

The dog seemed to be ok with everyone at the house he sniffed everyone and at one point was excited and running around. Papa picked Payton up to say hello to her and as he put her down the dog growled!

Taking no chances Papa said "out" and he followed Papa to the door just as Papa grabbed the door knob the dog (American bulldog 200lbs) bolted toward Payton bit down on her cheek and shook her like a rag doll!!!!!

The dog released her Meme grabbed Payton and literally held her face together till the ambulance came! After arriving at the hospital Payton went right into surgery receiving over 100 stitches and her cheek bone is shattered! They want to put a dissolving plate in her cheek so as she grows the plate will dissolve but they cannot fix her cheek till the swelling goes down. We just found out a few hours ago Payton will be sent to Boston to have the next surgery done.

Scott and I wanted to set up this "go fund me" page to help with the costly expenses of traveling/staying in Boston. They are also trying to find an apartment to rent as they just arrived in Maine a few days ago. It's now December which means Christmas is right around the corner :( we are praying to have Payton home by Christmas!

Any money raised will be used for travel, food, shelter, and out of pocket expenses that come with emergencies like this. If you cannot donate that's ok maybe you know of an apartment for rent or a great landlord in the Lewiston/Auburn area! Lastly we ask to keep the prayers coming and thanks to all for the overwhelming support.

Note: In a later article, the dog is referred to as a pit bull.
