Nicholas Luiz, 31, admits to killing his dog, police say

CALIFORNIA -- A man has been arrested for animal cruelty after admitting to killing his dog, Napa Police said Wednesday morning.

Police responded to a home on 1100 block of Massa Drive in Napa on Tuesday night after receiving a report of animal cruelty.

A witness said that Nicholas Luiz, 31, had been abusing his 5-month-old German Shepherd, Woody, for the last few months, police said.

The witness said that Luiz abused the dog in the backyard and possibly killed the dog earlier that day.

When police officers knocked on the door at 11:45 p.m., there was no answer. Police returned Wednesday morning with a search warrant and found the puppy dead inside the residence.

Luiz admitted to killing his dog by repeatedly slamming it to the ground in the backyard, police said. He was arrested and booked at the Napa County jail.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact Investigator Andy Hess at 257-9507.
