Pit bull breaks free in Pinehurst kennel, attacks employee and business owner

NORTH CAROLINA -- Two women were attacked by a pit bull in Moore County on Wednesday morning.

The incident involved two workers at Oak Hill Kennel on Roberts Loop off of Murdocksville Road near Vass and happened around 9:30 a.m., the Aberdeen Times reported

Dori Darvy, age 48, the owner of the business, and Amy Dahl, age 53, an employee, were attacked and then rushed to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, authorities say.

The incident happened when Dahl walking a pit bull with a leash though a gate at the facility. At the same time, Darvy was walking two other dogs on a leash — and all three animals encountered each other.

The pit bull broke free from the leash just as Darvy managed to safely secured the two dogs she was walking.

The women were attacked, but the other dogs were not in the area at that point and suffered no injuries.

The women were able to wrestle the dog into a pen and close the door to end the  attack.

Both women were transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Darvy's injuries were to her upper extremities, and Dahl received wounds to her face and upper extremities.

Moore County Animal Operations responded and picked the dog up from the Oak Hill Kennel. According to Moore County Animal Operations Director Brenda Sears, the dog will be quarantined at the Animal Shelter in Carthage for 10 days as required by law.

Responding to this incident were units with Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Animal Operations, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department
